Until 2005, Dan Kyler divided his legal attention between plaintiff's personal injury work and defense work. After the merger and purchase of several insurance companies, the amount of work Dan does on the defense side has diminished, but approximately 10% of his practice still involves defense work. Whichever side he is on, Dan says his first task is to alleviate the concerns of his client. "I enjoy people. I enjoy helping people," Dan says. "Clients can be worried and overwhelmed by the legal system and they need to know they will be protected and well-represented in that system. If a client employs me and there is a way to success, we are going to be successful."

Dan obtained his law degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1982. His undergraduate degree, with a double major, is in business and philosophy from Montana State University. After law school, Dan was employed at Rush, Hannula, Harkins & Kyler, where he had previously worked as an intern during law school. In 1987, Dan became a partner with the firm and has served as managing partner since 1995.

Dan's practice includes car accidents, motorcycle accidents and plaintiff's medical negligence work. In addition, Dan often receives referrals and handles business tort litigation for clients in need of assistance with matters such as unfair business practices, trade secrets and non-compete agreements.

Dan has served on the Board of Trustees of the Pierce County Bar Association, and for a number of years served as chairman of the Medical/Legal Liaison Committee. He served the local bar as president in 2003 and continues to work on various committees of the Bar Association. Dan has served on the Board of the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society since 2000 and was the President of the Board of the Humane Society in 2004-2005.

Dan has lived in Tacoma since 1979. He and his wife love to travel and they are the guardians of three large Basset hounds: Tommy Grant, Leon Redbone and Ana Carolina. Dan also is a year-round fly fisherman.
